National Diploma

A wide range of Higher National Diploma , National Diploma, pre-National Diploma, Professional Training, Certificate Courses and Special Training programmes are offered by the four academic Schools.

ND AHP – Animal Health Production

The programme is designed to produce technicians who will be able to apply generalized scientific knowledge and skill in livestock care and increased production.
Diplomates of this programme should be able to:
1. Operate medium scale livestock farms and carry out associated production processes;
2. Identify signs of disease processes in livestock and apply necessary first aid measures
3. Carry out routine preventive measures and meat inspection and follow up prescribed veterinary medical treatments;
4. Assist veterinary surgeons in veterinary clinics, laboratories and farms
5. Carry out primary processing and preservation of livestock products;
6. Serve as extension worker capable of imparting to livestock farmers the modern techniques of increased animal production.

Admission Requirement

The requirement for admission into the programme as approved by the NBTE is as follows:
Five (5) O’level subjects at credit level which must include English, Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry and any two of the following: Biology or Agricultural Science and Economics

ND Fisheries Technology

The National Diploma Programme in Fisheries Technology is designed to produce technicians who will be able to apply modern technology to cultivate and rear fish and other aquatic animals at commercial levels, participate in marine fishing and process, preserve and market fish on large scale for human consumption and other purposes.
1. Assist in determining suitable environment, planning, layout, construction and development of fish ponds/farms
2. Carry out all aquacultural practices
3. Employ modern techniques in stock, feed preparation, nutrition, harvesting and associated management practices in a fishing enterprise
4. Assist in the construction and operation of simple fish processing and preservation equipment
5. Construct fishing gears
6. Operate and maintain different types of simple fishing gears and carfts (nets, traps, lines, outboard engines, etc)
7. Assist in fisheries extension and cooperation

Admission Requirement

Five (5) O’level subjects at credit level which must include English, Mathematics or Physics, and any two of the following: Biology or Agricultural Science and Chemistry.

ND– Horticulture

The National Diploma programme in Horticultural Technology is designed to produce horticultural technicians who are self-reliant, skilled and capable of adopting and imparting modern techniques in horticultural production.
A product of National Diploma in Horticultural Technology programme should be able to:
1. Establish horticultural farm enterprises
2. Employ modern techniques in horticultural crops production
3. Assist in processing, storage and marketing of horticultural produce
4. Assist in pest and disease management
5. Carry out horticultural extension services
6. Carry out ornamental gardening and conservation practices
7. Carry out basic field survey involving land measurements and field layout

Admission Requirement

Candidates applying for Horticulture must possess five credit passes in Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry and any three (3) subjects from the following: Geography, Mathematics, Economics, Technical Drawing, Physics and English Language.

ND– Forestry Technology

Goal and Objectives
The National Diploma programme in Forestry Technology is designed to produce technicians capable of assisting in the establishment of Forest Plantations and in managing forest resources.
Specific objectives:
A successful diplomate in forestry technology should be able to:
1. Survey, plot and demarcate an area for restry projects;
2. Establish nursery for both forestry and horticultural and seedling production;
3. Identify useful trees, shrubs and herbs of economic importance in forestry
4. Measure and calculate volume of wood on a given site
5. Assist in afforestation projects
6. Assist in establishment of forest plantations
7. Identify disease symptoms in the nurseries and in plantations
8. Operate and maintain various forestry tools and equipment
9. Harvest forest resources
10. Produce simple furniture items
11. Prepare simple annual work
12. Produce simple annual work calendar
13. Participate in community forestry extension programme

Admission Requirement

Candidates applying for Forestry Technology must possess five credit passes in Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry and any three (3) subjects from the following: Geography, Mathematics,
Economics, Technical Drawing, Physics and English Language.

ND HRE – Home and Rural Economics

Admission Requirement

The requirement for admission into the programme as approved by the NBTE is as follows:
Five (5) O’level subjects at credit level which must include English, Mathematics, Home Economics/Food & Nutrition/Agricultural Science,
Chemistry any two of the following: Geography, Religious Studies, Economics

ND AGT – Agriculture Technology

The National Diploma programme in Agricultural Technology is designed to produce agricultural technicians capable of applying modern farming techniques in direct agricultural production.
1. Assist in planning and laying out all sizes of crop, ani8mal and fish farms;
2. Employ modern techniques in the rearing of different types of livestock on large scale;
3. Employ modern techniques in land preparation, planning, management and harvesting of food and cash crops;
4. Assist in processing and storage of all agricultural produce;
5. Assist in agricultural extension services.

Admission Requirement

The requirement for admission into the programme as approved by the NBTE is as follows:
Five (5) O’level subjects at credit level which must include English, Mathematics, Chemistry,
Biology/Agricultural Science and any of Physics or Economics or Geography.
