Higher National Diploma

A wide range of Higher National Diploma , National Diploma, pre-National Diploma, Professional Training, Certificate Courses and Special Training programmes are offered by the four academic Schools.

HND APT – Animal Production Technology

The programme is designed to provide technically competent manpower to meet the national requirements in the areas of Animal Production
A product of HND in Animal Production should be able to:
i. Plan, establish and manage livestock farms and carry out associated production processes including diary production, egg production, hatchery processes;
ii. Identify early signs of animal diseases processes, apply necessary first aid measures and follow up prescribed veterinary instructions;
iii. Process, package and market animal products and by-products;
iv. Produce feeds for all types of livestock;
v. Serve as an extension worker, able to impart to Livestock farmers the modern techniques
vi. Carry out routine maintenance of farm structure.

Admission Requirement

The requirement for admission into the programme as approved by the NBTE is as follows:
Five (5) O’level subjects at credit level which must include English, Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry and any two of the following: Biology or Agricultural Science and Economics.
National Diploma in Animal Health and Production and General Agriculture with minimum of Lower Credit

HND AHT – Animal Health Technology

The programme is designed to produce Animal Health Superintendents capable of assisting and complementing the work of veterinarians in animal health care delivery.
1. Carry out routine preventive measure such as identifying early signs of disease processes, apply necessary medication under minimum supervision and follow-up veterinary medical instructions;
2. Operate veterinary sub-clinics, cattle control posts, inspect meat and carry out policy decisions of government at the rural levels; thus serving as competent extension agents;
3. Assist in the management of diagnostic laboratories and cary out sales and marketing of veterinary drugs;
4. Assist in the management of livestock farms and associated production processes.

Admission Requirement

The requirement for admission into the programme as approved by the NBTE is as follows:
Five (5) O’level subjects at credit level which must include English, Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry and any two of the following: Biology or Agricultural Science and Economics
National Diploma in Animal Health and Production

HND CPT – Crop Production Technology

To Produce Higher Agricultural Technicians who are adequately and technically equipped with indepth theoretical and practical knowledge of crop production and are capable of operating and managing large scale farm enterprises.
1. Prepare land, using all the necessary implements and equipment and applying various land preparation methods and techniques
2. Identify the soil types suitable for various types of crops
3. Produce or acquire improved varieties of planting materials
4. Operate farm machinery, equipment and implements and carry out their routine maintenance
5. Apply irrigation techniques to boost crop production
6. Carry out routine management operations in crop farms.
7. Establish ornamental and horticultural nursery and design landscape
8. Process and store harvested crops
9. Assist in research on crop production

Admission Requirement

The requirement for admission into the programme as approved by the NBTE is as follows:
Five (5) O’level subjects at credit level which must include English, Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry and any two of the following: Biology or Agricultural Science
National Diploma in Agricultural Technology, Forestry, and Horticulture with at least Lower Credit.

HND PMT – Pest Management Technology

The Programme is designed to produce technologists who will be able to control/eradicate all forms of agricultural, human and environmental pests, applying modern pest management techniques.
On completion of this programme, the diplomate should be able to:
1. Identify all known pests
2. Identify the presence of the pests by their activities, droppings, body parts, eggs, etc
3. Formulate and prepare pesticides of all forms
4. Organize and execute pest control campaigns at all scales
5. Service and maintain pest control equipment
6. Manage and control pests.

Admission Requirement

The requirement for admission into the programme as approved by the NBTE is as follows:
Five (5) O’level subjects at credit level which must include English, Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry and any two of the following: Biology or Agricultural Science.
National Diploma in Agricultural Technology Animal Health and Production and Science Laboratory
Technology with at least Lower Credit.

HND Fisheries Technology

The Higher National Diploma programme in fisheries Technology is designed to produce Fisheries Technologists who will be able to play leadership roles in the application of modern techniques and skills in commercial scale fish farming and marine fisheries and in the processing, preservation and marketing of fish and other aquatic animals.
The requirement for admission into the programme as approved by the NBTE is as follows:
Diplomates of this programme will be able to:
1. Survey, design and establish fish farms
2. Construct fish fears
3. Rear, harvest, preserve and process fish and other aquatic animals
4. Carry out all aqua cultural services
5. Establish and operate hatcheries
6. Produce and analyse all types of fish feed
7. Service fishing boats and engines
8. Provide leadership in marine expeditions

Admission Requirement

Five (5) O’level subjects at credit level which must include English, Mathematics or Physics, and any two of the following: Biology or Agricultural Science and Chemistry; and National Diploma in Fisheries Technology, and Animal Health and Production with at least Lower Credit.

HND HLT – Horticulture and Landscape Technology

The programme is designed to produce higher horticultural technicians who will be adequately equipped to apply their knowledge to increased production of fruits and vegetables and other horticultural plants and will also be able to apply their knowledge in landscape design techniques and development.
A product of this programme should be able to:
1. Plan, establish and manage commercial horticultural nurseries
2. Plan, establish and operate commercial vegetable gardens
3. Plan and establish orchards
4. Design, plan and establish parks and gardens
5. Design, plan and execute the landscaping of premises, highways, walkways, etc for aesthetics, erosion control, etc.
6. Design, plan and establish sports fields such as football fields, etc.

Admission Requirement

The requirement for admission into the programme as approved by the NBTE is as follows:
Five (5) O’level subjects at credit level which must include English, Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry and any two of the following: Biology or Agricultural Science and Biology; and National Diploma in Agricultural Technology, Forestry and Horticulture with at least Lower Credit.

HND (AEM) – Agriculture Extension and Management

To Produce technically competent agricultural manpower to carry out extension work among the rural populace and also carry out administrative and financial management of agricultural enterprises.
A product of HND in Agricultural Extension and Management should be able to:
1. Carry out extension work among rural populace
2. Organise agricultural Cooperatives and exhibitions
3. Carry out financial survey and evaluation of a proposed or existing agricultural enterprise and make recommendations
4. Provide administrative leadership in all sizes of agricultural enterprises
5. Assist in Agricultural Management research

Admission Requirement

The requirement for admission into the programme as approved by the NBTE is as follows:
Five (5) O’level subjects at credit level which must include English, Mathematics, Chemistry or Physics, Economics or Geography, Biology or Agricultural Science in addition to National Diploma in any Agricultural Programme with at least Lower Credit

HND PHT – Post-Harvest Technology

Job opportunities
• It is expected that graduates will not have difficulty in securing jobs because of the high demand for Post-Harvest Technologists particularly in the agricultural industries. Also with the skills they will acquire during the training, they will be able to be self employed.

This course is designed to enable students understand the working principles, operation and processes involved in heat exchangers and refrigeration plants as well as their applications in post harvest technology of crops.
On completion of this course, the student should be able to:
1. Understand heat transfer processes
2. Understand the use and applications of thermodynamic tables and charts
3. Understand the use of psychrometric charts
4. Understand heat and mass transfer processes
5. Understand the principles and operation of heat exchangers
6. Understand the principles and operation of refrigeration plants

National Diploma in Forestry, Agric. Engineering Tech., Agric. Technology with at least Lower Credit
